Earnings - VGR, COST

Vector Group(VGR) reported Q4 and FY 2016 results after the close on Wednesday.  For Q4 the company reported EPS of $0.04 on revenues of $412.8 million. FY 2016 results came in with EPS of $0.55 on revenues of $1.69 billion, and net income of $233 million. The company saw a -5.2% decline in cigarrette sales volume in Q4 and -2.6% for 2016.  That's part of the reason why I think the stock is down over 4% this morning. Real estate results saw better revenue growth, but that didn't translate into a lot more profits.

Costco(COST) reports it's Q2'17 results today. Analysts are expecting EPS of $1.36 on revenues of $29.86 billion. Results for the quarter came in with EPS of $1.17 on revenues of $29.1 billion. February sales also came in showing a company wide gain of 3%. Additionally the company announced starting June 1, 2017 annual membership prices will increase by $5 for it's US and Canadian Goldstar & Business customers to $60. The executive membership willl see an increase of $10 to $120. I'm glad I just recently renewed my membership! Shares are down 4% in after hours trading.  I'd have to say I'm not disappointed with these results.  I think the after hours move is more indicative of profit taking after shares have rallied 25% since early November. We'll see how shares perform over the next few days.

Since March 2000 shares of Costco are up 352% versus a 69% gain in the S&P 500.
